Inspection Of Steel Coil

Coil testing is an important link to ensure the quality and performance of steel coil products, usually including the following aspects of testing:


Appearance quality: mainly check the surface flatness of the steel coil, surface defects (such as scratches, pits, rust, etc.) and thickness deviation. These defects not only affect the appearance of the steel coil, but also may affect its performance.

Dimensional accuracy: involves the measurement of the thickness, width and length of the steel coil. These dimensions must meet the relevant standards and customer requirements to ensure the suitability of the steel coil for subsequent processing and use.

Chemical composition analysis: The chemical composition of steel coil directly affects its mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. Therefore, rigorous chemical composition testing is required to ensure that the product complies with the specified requirements.

Mechanical properties test: including tensile strength, yield strength, elongation and other indicators of the test. These tests are done with equipment such as tensile testing machines to ensure that the steel coil has sufficient strength and stability.

Surface coating inspection: For coated products such as galvanized steel coils, it is necessary to check the coating thickness, adhesion and other indicators to ensure the quality and anti-corrosion performance of the coating.


In addition, depending on the purpose and special requirements of the steel coil, other special tests may also be required, such as corrosion resistance testing, impact toughness testing, etc.

Material introduction

Stainless steel, also known as inox or Corrosion Resistant (Stainless) Steel (CRES), is an alloy of iron that is resistant to rusting and corrosion.  It contains at least 10.5% chromium, usually nickel, and may also contain other elements, such as carbon, to obtain the desired properties.  Stainless steel's resistance to corrosion results from the chromium, which forms a passive film that can protect the material and self-heal in the presence of oxygen.


The alloy's properties, such as luster and resistance to corrosion, are useful in many applications.  Stainless steel can be rolled into sheets, plates, bars, wire, and tubing.  These can be used in cookware, cutlery, surgical instruments, major appliances, vehicles, construction material in large buildings, industrial equipment (e.g., in paper mills, chemical plants, water treatment), and storage tanks and tankers for chemicals and food products.


The biological cleanability of stainless steel is superior to both aluminium and copper, and comparable to glass.  Its cleanability, strength, and corrosion resistance have prompted the use of stainless steel in pharmaceutical and food processing plants.


Different types of stainless steel are labeled with an AISI three-digit number.  The ISO 15510 standard lists the chemical compositions of stainless steels of the specifications in existing ISO, ASTM, EN, JIS, and GB standards in a useful interchange table.
